Mahale Mountains National Park

Mahale Mountains National Park nestled along the shore of Lake Tanganyika approximately 128 km south of Kigoma town in Kigoma region. Mahale is Chimpanzee territory in the western tourism circuit. Mahale established in 1985 covering 1613sq km.

Mahale National Park terrain is rugged with hills inhabited with Watongwe and Wahololo tribe. The Mahale Mountains chain dominates the area running from northwest to southeast with highest peak rising 2462m of Mount Nkungwe. The park offers much to experience from Chimpanzee tracking, mountain climbing, sport fishing in Lake Tanganyika, kayaking, snorkeling and cool relaxation along pristine white sand beaches.

Major tourist’s activities in Mahale include chimpanzee tracking, bird watching in low land forest with beautiful birds. Climbing the highest peak of Mahale Mountains the Nkungwe summit, this tour takes 2 to 3 days. Snorkeling in Lake Tanganyika inhabited with over 250 fish species viewed by snorkeling in shallows along shoreline. Sport fishing and cultural tour visiting villages around the Area.
